A quick and practical way to do this is by using a Design Thinking approach. It focuses on obtaining a deep understanding of the underlying problem, working with affected people from both a problem and solution perspective, and experimenting with potential solution options before narrowing in one specifically. Design Thinking can be applied in any context and in this talk Ian Gray, Cucumber’s Business Manager will illustrate how Cucumber worked with Mr Apple’s Smarter Orchard Programme team to explore a challenge, gain clarity on the problem, explore possible solutions, and create a low-fi prototype that was used to evaluate potential technology options.
Grant Stevenson from Mr Apple will provide real feedback on the process and how it has enabled Mr Apple to re-look at the way they manage the harvesting of apples, the payment of orchard workers and how it helped them select the technology for trial.
